Hiring Process

Parr Brown actively recruits summer clerks, the majority of whom have completed their second year of law school. A limited number of positions are available for first-year students and law school graduates who will be going on to judicial clerkships. We believe in hiring talented and energetic law students who are interested in making a long-term professional commitment to the practice of law and to Parr Brown.

We typically hire summer clerks who are in the top 10% of their law school class and show initiative through extra-curricular activities such as law review, Moot Court program participation, and other law-related activities. While grades are important, we also look at individual characteristics such as poise, leadership ability, and written and verbal skills.

Representatives of Parr Brown work closely with university on-campus interview programs and attend recruiting functions throughout the year. Students from schools where the firm is conducting on-campus interviews should submit their resumes in accordance with their schools' guidelines.

If we are not scheduled to interview on campus at your school, send a resume directly to our Recruiting Committee by mail or email addressed to Stephen Sargent, Recruiting Committee Chair (185 S. State Street, Suite 800, Salt Lake City, UT 84111). First year students should submit resumes between December and February. Second and third year students should submit resumes between August and September.

"The atmosphere at Parr Brown is friendly and supportive. The attorneys take the time to involve summer associates in interesting projects and are willing to give advice and feedback. Through the mentor program, each summer associate has the opportunity to sample areas of the law in which he or she may be interested. Also, the firm organizes fun activities that give summer associates the chance to meet attorneys at every level of the firm. Overall, I truly value the experiences I have had during my summers at Parr Brown."
