INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY EXPERIENCE
Timothy Smith is a registered patent attorney and a member of the firm's commercial litigation group. Mr. Smith assists clients ranging from individual inventors to large corporations including international companies. His emphasis is on patent litigation as well as copyright and trademark litigation and drafting opinion letters.
Mr. Smith has been involved in patent prosecution and patent litigation covering a range of client technologies from particle counters to kidney dialysis to agglomerated and colloidal minerals and numerous technologies in between. His initial step with each client is to gain an understanding of the client’s needs, followed by immersing himself in learning about the client’s technology. He applies the knowledge he gains early on in order to work for resolution that meets his client’s goals.
Mr. Smith has handled disputes ranging from a multi-week trial in federal court to an exchange of letters that result in an early settlement. He has handled dozens of mediations related to patents, trademarks, trade secrets and other intellectual property.
Mr. Smith graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with Merit in 1990, and earned a Master of Science degree in International Relations from Troy State University in 1992.
